Well, we have booked our first trip in the fall, to a bush cabin
Just a couple questions if anyone could help out.
When bringing in the food, do you need a cooler ? Just thinking of the weight.
Is 100 lbs enough, or do most pay extra ?
Do the boats have fish finders ?
Were going to one of the new lakes Sahler..
I'm sure I could go on and on, but do aprreciate any answers.
Thanks for your time

Steelie,   Also have a trip for this fall, to Rush. First time in the fall should be fun.  Coolers help lots with space in ref, you can freeze gal jugs of water.  Also you can freeze meats. This will add weight and money(on over weight) but your on vacation. No finders on boats.  We have a portable lowrance with extra battery  and solar panel works great.

Steelie
Went to Saher in 07.  Several good places for walleye and northern.  Cabin is on south west end of lake.  Weed line on west shore is good for walleye.  Point and rocks, structure on east shore good for walleye.  Island on north end of lake and north west shore  are good for walleye and northern.  Sahler is not a big lake and so is relatively easy to find structure.  Portable depth finder is a must.

Two other lakes available.  Good walleye at both lakes.  Path to lakes is steep in several places -- pace yourself.
Google maps has new detailed satellite images of the area! Suggest getting on google and searching Chapleau, Ontario.  Sahler is norht east of chapleau.  Also, see Map Sites on AI website.
Good fishing and much success. Should be interesting since it has been idle for a year or two.

Steelie,
Two corrections: I went in 06 and map of lakes is under LAKES MAP  on AI site.  Gives you position of lake before going to google.

Is this the Steelie from GR? We have never been under weight. Last year we were 300 lbs over with 3 people.  Roll Eyes

Destiny, was there any size to the pike you caught? We're hoping to catch big pike. We've been to Rush once and Oswald twice and were thinking of trying someplace new but still want the opportunity to catch some nice pike.

THe overweight is minor are gang splits  are overage equal and its not a big deal.
As for coolers we use a large tupperware tub for are food when we get off the plane the food gots in the fridge and on the counter leaveing a perfect tub to put are beer in, we buy blocks of ice from airivan to on the day we fly out and have them bring more on there mid week check and that seems to be enough to keep the beer cold.

there are many ways to drop some wieght if money is a concern but depending on the size of your group the cost can easily be absorbed, like the other member said you are on vacation. every year I try and thin out what i truly need need. beverages are usually what wieghs the most, water, beer, ect. we freeze water bottles to use as ice and come in handy later, also use an MSR purification unit works great while you are on the water my group does not drink muck so we end up bringing a couple of bottles of brandy only.
its nice to load up your tackle box for a great fishing adventure but I have found that simply is better so I pretty much have I small box for jerkbaits/spinner/ sppons and another with lots jigs/ grubs and soft plastics, this also help when portaging to other lakes.  A fish finder is a must and well worth the investment, we use an eagle cuda I think and batteries almost last the week.( turn off when not using is a must).  clothing is down to to one small bags, except for rain gear and boots, if need be and there is good sun, will do a mid week wash. another good tip is to leave a bag of clothes in the car to change for the ride home. bulkier clothing is always a good idea as we hit some really cold temps and that was in the beginning of june. Also for wght makes sure you are not doubling up on anything you dont need, I remeber one trip that everyone on our group brought an axe and cast iron skilet, only to find that we did not need none of them (learn something new with every trip) AI is great, enjoy your adventure

From past experience just take in what you want. As said previous the overweight charges split up over the number in the group is a cheap price to make sure you enjoy your time there.
